Annette Funicello's dancer was spotted on the streets of Fullerton California by Walt Disney when she was just 13 years of age. Funicello was not a candidate for the Mickey Mouse Club and joined in the latter half of the season of the series, much to the dislike of the show's Mickey Mouse Club peers. Disney did the right thing as she quickly gained prominence as The Mickey Mouse Club's top performer with her own Adventures in Dairyland storyline. Funicello's potential as a teenager superstar was soon realized. Disney hired Tutti Camerata an established arranger to help her launch her recording career. Annette, however, wasn't too enthusiastic about Funicello singing. Funicello was eventually accustomed to recording and enjoyed her time together with Camerata who is one of the few arrangers of their 40s who understood the fundamentals of the early rock. Annette Sings Anka is the album that marked the beginning of her progress. This was possibly the first LP featuring a rock songwriter. Funicello was the star of Beach Party, one of the five beach party movies that were immensely successful. The majority of the time, they were co-starring Frankie Avalon, these films are made by AIP but the scripts for every film were personally approved and read by Walt Disney to maintain Annette's clear image.
